Sutter Delta Medical Center proudly announces free guest Internet access.
Frequently asked questions:
What is Sutter Delta's Free Internet Access?
Sutter Delta Medical Center's Internet access allows our patients and /or their
guest to use their own personal computer or their PDA'sto send and receive
Internet data via a wireless network free of charge. Many of our hospitals
have installed 802.11b Wireless Standard network with an "access point" you
can use. NOTE: If your computer is wireless enabled, you can
connect to the Internet wireless while you're at Sutter delta.
Is there an access fee?
No. SDMC is providing this service free of charge to our patients and visitors.
However, our patients and visitors must have their own equipment, wireless
card and software.
Is the network secure?
SDMC Internet Access is as secure as any open public access network like public
telephones and dial-up Internet accounts. It's always a good idea to make
sure you are on a SSL-encrypted web page prior to sending or receiving confidential
data.
What tools do I need?
You must have your own laptop or notebook computer, or a personal digital
assistant (PDA) equipped with a standard Internet browser and a Internet compliant
(802.11b) wireless Ethernet card. In most cases, the card will be installed
in the PCMCIA slot on the side of the computer and will be loaded with preloaded
software. Note: Some newer laptops have built-in Wireless capability, in which
case the operating system alerts the user to the presence of an available wireless
network when its browser is on.
I have a Mac instead of a Windows-based machine. Can I still use the service?
Yes! All you need is an airport card or a 802.11b compatible wireless card
and the appropriate software installed.
Where can I buy a wirelss card?
Broadband/Wi-fi 802.11b wireless network cards are available from most major
electronic retailers in-store or on-line. Be sure to load the software for
your wireless card before you install the wireless card!
Connecting...
How do I connect to the free network at Sutter Delta?
Check to
make sure your wireless software and card are properly installed, turned on
your computer. Set your wireless card to connect to SHGuestNet or simply right
click on your "Wireless Found Alert" connect by left clicking on the SHGuestNet.
At Sutter Delta my web browser did not display any pages... here are some
things to check if you're having difficulty.
- Set you SSID to SHGuestNet. (Note: Wireless software terms for SSID
may vary. ESSID network name, wireless network name and network identifier,
are all terms for SSID). Refer to your wireless Internet card instructions
for details and make sure you software is running when you attempt to set
you SSID. In many cases, setting the SSID to any or any will also work and
will permit connection to any available wireless network. (Some find this
a very practical SSID setting, since they don't have to set a different SSID
for each wireless network they use.)
- Make sure that WEP Encryption (wireless encryption protocol) is DISABLED
(or OFF).
- Check that the connection is configured for INFRASTRUCTURE mode. (Ad-Hoc
mode will not work.)
- If you made any changes in steps 2 through 4 above, RESTART (or REBOOT)
your computer and web browser.
Can I connect to my corporate VPN in addition to the Internet?
Yes, The Sutter network is designed to pass PPTP and IPSEC packets. In some
cases you may need to contact your corperate VPN administrator.
Still having trouble connecting?
Please take these instructions and your laptop
to your local tech support shop. For purpose of security, confidentiality/privacy
policies, Sutter Delta IT cannot work on personal laptops.
