    History Timeline by Decade

    2010

    • Sutter Delta Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Interventional Laboratory is recognized with honors as part of Contra Costa County’s Award Winning STEMI Program.
    • Sutter Delta Medical Center opens East Contra Costa County’s first multimillion dollar Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center.
    • The medical center’s Imaging Department receives national accreditation as an Advanced Medical Imaging and Diagnostic Center with the capabilities of providing CT Scans, MRI, Ultrasounds, and much more.

    2000

    • Sutter Delta Medical Center installs a high-tech Infant Security System in the Family Birth Center.
    • Phase two of the Emergency Departments $1.6 million expansion project is completed, adding 16 beds to the emergency department, and two additional private treatment areas.
    • Sutter Delta Medical Center expanded telemetry capabilities by adding 12 additional monitoring beds.
    • The medical center launches high-tech bar-coding technology to ensure safe delivery of medication to patients.
    • The hospital opens a new cardiac electrophysiology program.
    • Sutter Health and Sutter Delta Medical Center invest $250,000 for a digital operating suite.
    • The medical center’s Family and Birthing Center opens new Special Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) and Pediatric Unit.
    • With help from the fundraising efforts of the Delta Memorial Foundation, Sutter Delta Medical Center opens East Contra Costa County's only multimillion dollar Cardiovascular Interventional Laboratory.

    1990

    • Delta Memorial Hospital opens East Contra Costa County’s only state-of-the-art Family Birthing and Women’s Health Center including nine large private labor and deliver suites, each equipped with Jacuzzi tubs, eight private recovery rooms, a special cesarean section recovery suite and and a nursery.
    • Delta Memorial Hospital becomes part of the Sutter Health Network and changes name to Sutter Delta Medical Center.
    • Sutter Delta Medical Center opens a $1.7 million cardiac lab, the area’s first and only cardiac lab serving East Contra Costa County.
    • Sutter Delta Medical Center adds epidural anesthesia and a second anesthesia team, thereby making the medical center’s Family Birthing Center available as a 24-hour service. Very soon after, the medical center reported a record number of deliveries with 755 births for the year.
    • Sutter Delta Medical Center launches the medical center’s first hospice service.
    • Sutter Delta Medical Center celebrates its 30th anniversary of service to the East Contra Costa County community. The medical center’s capacity nearly doubled after joining the Sutter Health Network.
    • Sutter Delta Medical Center launches phase one of the medical center’s Emergency Department expansion and remodeling. The expansion also provided four additional treatment areas.

    1980

    • $1.5 million raised by local community members helps the medical center open a new tower with an additional 66 beds. Delta Memorial Hospital is now a 111 bed medical facility.

    1970

    • Delta Memorial Hospital completes a $3.5 million expansion that adds six beds and four private rooms to the medical center’s Intensive Care and Critical Care Departments.
    • The expansion as a not-for-profit venture to serve their community also helps expand the medical center’s surgery, imaging and emergency departments, and creates a new business office, lobby, gift shop, dining room and administrative suite.

    1960

    • Antioch Community Hospital becomes Delta Memorial Hospital, which includes one house and cottages.
    • After three legislative attempts, the not-for-profit receives approval to expand the facility to better serve the growing population in East Contra Costa County.
    • Fundraising efforts recorded: PG&E gave $171,000, Louisiana Pacific gave $80,000, Du Pont gave $50,000 to help raise the $650,000 needed to expand Delta Memorial Hospital.
    • Delta Memorial Hospital opens its new and expanded 53 hospital bed facility, staffed with 100 employees. Services included: Pediatrics, Imaging, Physical Therapy, two surgery suites, on-site clinical lab and an emergency room. After only two weeks, the hospital was already at 80 percent capacity.

    1950

    • Eight physicians reopen the Antioch Community Hospital, Inc. as a not-for-profit venture to serve their community.

    1940

    • A “Mr. Adams” purchased the hospital and named it Antioch General Hospital.
    • The state closes Antioch General Hospital (official records state no specific reason).

    1927

    • Dr. Nivius established the first “Antioch Hospital” that was reportedly a few cottages.
